More on Working Longer

Posted on March 28, 2011

I came across an article today that provides a good follow-up to my post last week on older people in the workforce.

The article, “Low Savings Force Many to Put Off Retirement,” includes some interesting statistics from the Employee Benefit Research Institute (EBRI):

  • More than 73 percent of Americans in their late 50s are now in the labor force, up from 68 percent in the mid-1990s.
  • So are 55 percent of those in their early 60s, up from 45 percent a decade and a half ago.
  • Among people in their late 60s, nearly 32 percent are now in the workforce, up from 22 percent previously.
